General Student Mail FAQs

I can't find my package...help!

  • Logistics Student Mail is doing its best to keep up with the overwhelming truckloads of packages arriving at UC San Diego!  If you have not received a notification email from UCSD Logistics Student Mail, it means your package has not yet been received into our package tracking system.  Please wait patiently for your package to be processed, and if you haven't received a notification within a few business days, let us know (studentmail@ucsd.edu or Submit a Support Case Ticket). Once you do receive your notification email, please double check the email to confirm the appropriate parcel center location for pickup.

How should packages and mail be addressed?

  • Be sure to use the following full shipping address when ordering packages and mail as shown below:
  • Use the official UC San Diego mailing address for students:
    • STUDENT NAME (as registered at UCSD)
BOX NUMBER (assigned 5 digit mailbox)
      9450 GILMAN DR
      LA JOLLA CA 92092-0100

What do I need to bring to pick up a package?

  • To pick up your package, please bring your student ID and provide your mailbox number. The mailbox number should be included in the email alert received.

Can a delegate be sent to retrieve a package in the case that I am unable to go myself?

  • If for any reason you are unable to retrieve the package(s) yourself, let us know (studentmail@ucsd.edu or Submit a Support Case Ticket) and provide the name of the person who will be retrieving your package(s) for you.

How long can packages be held at the parcel centers?

  • Packages can be held at the parcel centers for 5 business days before the student receives a second alert to pick up their package. If packages are failed to be picked up within the next 3 business days, the packages may be returned to the sender. Depending on the time of year, hold times may be extended.

How are campus mailboxes assigned?

  • Students living on campus are assigned mailboxes through theirResidential Life office.

Is student mail delivered the same day it is received by Student Mail Services?

  • Yes, student mail is delivered the same day as Logistics receives it from the U.S. Postal Service.

How should packages and mail be addressedto the vendor?

  • Make sure you (or your parents) use your full shipping address when ordering from a vendor.

How can I ensure safety of my mailbox?

  • For your safety and privacy, be sure to clear your mailbox combination after checking your mailbox by closing the door and spinning the lock to a random number. Do not leave your mailbox unlocked.
  • Report broken mailboxes to Student Mail Services ( studentmail@ucsd.edu or Submit a Support Case Ticket) or to anyResidential Life office.

Will mail be forwarded to me after I graduate?

  • Logistics will forward your USPS mail for a maximum of 60 days after spring quarter ends. When you are prepared to forward your mail and no longer receive mail on this campus, email housinginfo@ucsd.edu to request an address change for forwarding OR update your current mailing address on TritonLink.
  • Note: We are only able to forward United States Postal Services (USPS) items within the US. All other carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, AMZL, etc... ) must be picked up in person or returned to the sender.

The Trove FAQs

What can I do at The Trove?

  • At The Trove, you can:
    • Pick up packages from the smart lockers (Muir, Warren, The Village at PCE, and Marshall)
    • Ship packages via UPS, FedEx, or USPS
    • Purchase stamps and shipping supplies
    • Drop off prepaid packages going back through UPS, FedEx, or USPS
    • Rent a private mailbox (PMB)

Are there items that I cannot ship through The Trove?

  • At The Trove, we are unable to ship anything with lithium batteries, aerosols, biohazards, lab samples, or dry ice.

What if my prepaid drop off has lithium batteries? Can I still drop it off at The Trove?

  • Yes, if the item has a prepaid label it can still be dropped off at the Trove, but it must have warning labels indicating there are batteries inside the package.

What is the locker system?

  • The locker system provides contactless, self-serve package pickup. Check above for current hours.

How do I use the new locker system?

  • Using the locker system is as easy as 1-2-3! Check out this quick guide here. We recommend swiping your Campus Card to retrieve packages, but you can also use your emailed QR code. The last option is to manually enter a pin code on the kiosk screen.

Are we going to get more locker banks elsewhere on campus?

  • Our goal is to expand the locker program to other strategic locations on campus. Future phases will target the ERC & Seventh college region, Revelle & Eighth college region, and graduate housing.

What are the differences between the Blue and Gold Kiosk Lockers and overflow package pick-up at The Trove?

  • Your email notification will identify which locker your package is stored - either the Blue or Gold Kiosk. When you enter The Trove, the Blue Kiosk is to the left, and the Gold Kiosk is to the right.
  • If there is high package volume and the lockers are full, packages may be scanned as overflow package pick-up and can be manually retrieved from the back room of The Trove during normal Mailing Center operating hours.

Why is my QR code not scanning?

  • We recommend swiping your Campus Card to retrieve packages, but if you'd like to use your QR code make sure your phone is in Light Mode and the brightness is turned up. If the QR code still doesn't work, enter the pin code provided in your email.

Help, I want to use my QR code, but I can't find it!

  • Depending on your phone, the QR code may be added as an attachment to your email notification versus embedded in the email itself. If you still can't find your QR code you can always swipe your Campus Card (preferred)! You can also enter the pin code provided in your email.

Amazon says my package was delivered, but the parcel center has not sent me an email yet. What can I do?

  • Depending on the type of Amazon delivery driver, Amazon packages can be delivered to inaccurate locations on campus. Student Mail will attempt to locate these packages as soon as possible, but sometimes the packages cannot be found. If you do not receive a notification from Student Mail within 2-3 business days, you should contact Amazon for a refund or replacement.

What does it mean when my package "expires"?

  • If the package placed into the locker was not picked up within three days, the package will be taken out and placed in The Trove's back room. You can manually retrieve your package there during normal Mailing Center operating hours.

Is the locker system ADA compliant?

  • Yes! Give Student Mail a heads up that you request accommodations by emailingstudentmail@ucsd.edu or Submitting a Support Case Ticket. We will place your packages in a locker bank designated for ADA use only!  The kiosk itself also has audio prompts available; just plug in your headphones to hear instructions for use.

Does The Trove provide notary services or money orders?

  • The Trove does not provide notary services or money orders.

Can I apply for a passport at The Trove?

  • No, but you canapply for a passport through UC San Diego's Passport Acceptance Office.
